ProStar Contract Packaging receives its SQF Edition 8 certification assuring buyers and customers that food has been packaged, processed and handled according to the highest standards

POTTSTOWN, Pa. — April 25, 2018 — Good news for shoppers who want to know their food supply chain is safe and clean. Today, ProStar Contract Packaging, based in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, announced it has received SQF Edition 8 certification from the Safety Quality Institute, which assures buyers and customers that food has been packaged and handled according to the highest standards.

Recent trends in the food industry show that customers are demanding “food transparency,” meaning they want to know what’s in their food and where it’s coming from. ProStar Contract Packaging can now offer manufacturers food packaging under the most stringent safety guidelines.

Kim Salvatore, quality assurance director at ProStar Contract Packaging, says attaining the coveted SQF 8 certification was tough. “This announcement marks an exciting new level of transparency for our company, and I’m so proud of our ProStar team. This whole process energized all of us. The SQF 8 certification process is rigorous. Most contract packaging organizations struggle with the high level of preparation, documentation, training and learning required to reach this level of certification. Manufacturers that work with us will know their products are being handled under the highest level of safety guidelines — and that’s exciting.”

The SQF 8 certification requires daily, and even hourly, inspections of food and/or products that are being packaged. After months of training, this has become routine for the employees at ProStar Contract Packaging. CEO Julian Bossong says, “ProStar is one of the first contract packaging companies in the United States to receive the SQF 8 certification in the Food Storage and Distribution category. This is the direct result of many dedicated employees working hard to learn safety procedures and following them all day, every day. This is a proud moment for our company.”

ProStar’s Kim Salvatore believes the future is bright for packaging companies that are willing and able to operate under the strictest safety guidelines. She says, “We know consumers are looking for safe, well-made products produced in clean, well-maintained environments. We’re proud to offer that.”
